The "L" actually means "brightness", "A" of the green-red aspect "B" of the blue-yellow aspect. When working in LAB mode, you can change the brightness of your digital photo and keep the saturation and the same colors. The way this is possible because practicallyno picture information is used up or lost if you convert to Lab mode. It is also good if you convert it back again, which is very handy. (Especially with very valuable photos, like other peoples wedding photos.) Not everyone uses it, but it's a neat trick with some digital images.

In some digital photography images can then simply select the L channel in LAB mode to sharpen. In this way, much of the noise in the image is in the other channels that are not affected in generalSharpening of this effect.

Now this may not suit every individual are the digital photography, you have. But in some situations it is very well. I suggest you try it, the effect will be seen.
